Building Antenna and Cabling Installation & Design
Schematics
Our installations do not require penetration of the roof for either the antenna or the lead-in wire. The antenna lead-in wire usually goes either through an existing openings in the wall or a nearby vent opening into the penthouse or mechanical room. A penetration is sometimes required for the cable on the penthouse wall, but not the roof. Occasionally we have to make a small penetration on the wall (approximately 3/4 in diameter) and all penetrations are sealed. We install the antenna system described below so your tenants can receive the digital TV programs we transmit throughout the Washington DC area. The most common installation is a non-penetrating surface antenna mount that includes eight cinder blocks. Some installations consist of a mast that generally extends about three to eight feet beyond the penthouse roof or cooling tower wall (see image C) and is attached to the wall with heavy-duty wall mounts (see image D).
Most building installations include an antenna that provides local off-air broadcast channels (usually 4, 5, 7, 9, 26, and 20). This antenna is mounted on the same structure as The Capitol Connection antenna.
Our system requires that a small power supply be connected in the building and usually includes an (amplifier). We mount the power supply on a wall in the mechanical room or in a telephone closet on the top floor of the building. The power supply, which is U.L. approved, has a standard line and three-prong grounded plug that we simply plug into an existing electrical outlet.
We install Teflon-coated TV cable that runs through the telephone closets and then into your tenants' offices. There is no electrical voltage on this cable other than our digital TV signal—just like the lead-in wire for home TV antennas.
The Capitol Connection retains ownership of its receiver equipment, and we maintain our equipment at no cost to you. The Capitol Connection also maintains liability insurance for bodily injury and property damage, and Certificates of Insurance are available upon written request.
If your building is not currently served by The Capitol Connection, we can do a free site survey and provide you with customized drawings of our proposed antenna installation. It's all very easy and straightforward.
